MPA Engage at IUNC conference: citizen science and local experiences presented
In September 2021 two MPA Engage partners took part at the IUCN World Conference which was held in Marsille.
Carlo Cerrano (Professor at Polytechnic University of Marche) gave a presentation during the Conference focus on sustainable tourism. In fact, Mediterranean Marine Protected Areas are main touristic destinations, and MPA Engage is promoting the engagement of key stakeholders to define and implement adaptation action plans to enhance the resilience of MPAs to climate change. Through effective participation strategies MPA Engage is spreading the perception of climate change effects in marine ecosystems among society and suggesting innovative approaches for sustainable diving tourism.
Pauline Vouriot (Parc National des Calanques) presented the MPA Engage project to showcase nature-based solution to adapt to climate change. The presentation illustrated project’s objectives and the methodologies developed and tested to be transferable to all MPAs. Finally, monitoring activities in the Calanques NP were given as an example of the activities and tools carried out during the project.
