MPA Engage experience presented at the SSF University

On November 10th, 2020, – the LEK based monitoring – one of the most successful participatory experiences of the MPA Engage project, was presented at the “FAO SSF University Day”, which is part of the SSF University.

The SSF University is designed to build capacity of small-scale fishers and fish workers on select topics, to share knowledge and to promote the exchange of best practices throughout the Mediterranean and Black Sea region. This initiative responds to the recommendations within the Regional Plan of Action for Small-Scale Fisheries in the Mediterranean and the Black Sea (RPOA-SSF) on the need to ensure that small-scale fishers and fish workers have the necessary capacity and skills to contribute towards sustainable small-scale fisheries and livelihoods.

The event was organized by the FAO Mediterranean Projects (AdriaMed, CopeMedII, EastMed, MedSudMed) and the BlackSea4Fish project, with 12 participating Countries 13 different localities all around the Mediterranean ad Black Sea hosting simultaneous local events: Algeria, Bulgaria, Croatia, Egypt, Gaza strip-Palestine, Italy, Lebanon, Montenegro, Morocco, Spain, Tunisia, Turkey. Greece. In light of the COVID-19 pandemic the originally proposed SSF University course has been adapted to the online format.
